The Healing Power of Story

“Telling your story often and in detail is primal to the grieving process.  You must get it out.  Grief must be witnessed to be healed.  Grief shared is abated… In telling the story, you open up your confusion as you cover terrain that needs exploring.”

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross and David Kessler
On Grief and Grieving, Pgs 62-65

Storybooks for Healing (S4H) is all about preserving your recollections, the life of your loved one, and the acknowledgment of those whose lives were touched.

In grief, we have two stories to tell. Our personal journey of pain, loss, love and learning; and the story of our loved one we desire to share, remember and mourn. Sometimes these intersect, and sometimes they are in opposition. S4H takes you through both paths simultaneously in order to let go of loss and preserve memories of life. The S4H Workbook walks you through your personal journey as you explore the deep connections to your loved one and identify your loss. At the same time you'll learn writing techniques that help you share the characteristics, values and wisdom gained through this experience. As you become the storyteller, rather than the griever, you find purpose, meaning and direction. In the second step, you publish a storybook to honor your loved one and create a lasting legacy for posterity. As you share, you begin to heal knowing that your loved one matters still today, and that you have the story to read again any time you want.

Whether you are a friend, spouse, parent, child, partner, co-worker or acquaintance of the deceased, your loss counts. It is important to tell the story. Through S4H, you can write for yourself, uncover new meaning, and share the completed storybook with posterity.

Story matters; it validates our lives.

If you are ready to preserve the life of your loved one, and your own wisdom, Storybooks for Healing can help.
